Gingham Stylin'

Hair flipping happy face
Losing our balance on the sloped hill!

A while ago, I was scavenging the sale rack at H&M and decided to venture into the men's side. I saw this gingham shirt that was marked down to only $7 and I knew I needed to get it for Patrick. They didn't have it at the first location but when I went to the Orange Outlets, I found the last small size and now Patrick is happily wearing it! : ) I love wearing my gingham shirt because it's nice and comfy & laid back. Also, I just realized now that this gingham shirt was the first thing I ever bought at J.Crew...it holds a very special place in my heart. Hope you all enjoyed this post as much as we did making it!

Palm Trees

I recently dropped by Goodwill to do some thriftin'! If you follow me on Instagram (@simplyysophiaa here) then you would've known that I picked up this palm tree top. I've been loving all the summer icons that have been showing up everywhere like the pineapple, palm tree, and flamingo prints. They are so cute & definitely put me in the summer mood. The shirt itself isn't made from the super comfy cotton material, but I loved the print too much to part with it. It's an awesome top to wear during the summer or even the fall when it is still hot out. I paired it in two different outfits as a casual piece. I know it's silly to wear out random prints like palm trees all over but I love it & think it's super spunky & fun! Now I just want to wear this top to the pool or beach and just stay there forever. Anyone else?

Poppy Flower & Leather Skirts

Here are two of the most recent skirts I purchased. They are both very different in style but still versatile to wear all year around! I had my eye on this poppy field flower skirt ever since I saw it on the J.Crew Factory website. I told myself to wait for it to go on sale and with good judgement, I scored it on a 50% off sale for July 4th along with my employee discount so it was definitely a steal! I love the bright red in-your-face poppy flower print all over the skirt. It instantly brightens my day whenever I wear it. Use fun prints as a pick me up when you're feeling down. Trust me, it will brighten up your day & mood!
I remember when the leather/pleather skirt trend started surfacing a while ago. I've always admired it ever since but was hesitant to purchase one because they were usually $20+ and I wasn't really sure if it would be flattering on me. Luckily, I found this olive leather skirt at the thrift store during a July 4th 50% off sale. It was only $1.50! I was happy to have found it and although I originally wanted a black leather skirt, I think this olive color is unique and can also match with a lot of colors. I've already wore a numerous amount of things with this skirt ranging from a striped v-neck tee and converse to a formal blazer. Now go out and rock those skirts friends!

Pastel Purple

I usually don't sport purple or lavendar colors, but I think these pair of pastel purple cropped jeans have gotten me to cross over to the fields of luscious lavendar and pretty purples. When I slipped into these jeans, I felt like it perfectly matched the summer months and was such a pretty shade of purple. I also love the super cropped cut for these pants. I think they come off very flattering and Audrey Hepburn-esque. I scored these lovely pants at the Camarillo Outlets for a very discounted price! There are a bajillion ways to style these pants but I just went very simple and paired a white peterpan collared sleeveless shirt with it. These pants would be great with a blazer, a crop top, polka dot prints (yay!), sweaters, and great for color blocking looks. I'm very excited to whip out these pants more and more!
( P.S.- Sorry about the limited & somewhat tilted photos. Time was limited! Forgive me :^) )

Fourth of July Outfit Ideas

My "YAY" face for fireworks!!
For this first look, it's probably something I would wear in the evening when it starts to get a bit chillier. It's a perfect outfit to watch fireworks in because it's a very patriotic sweater and still would keep me warm if it starts to get breezy at night. I actually thrifted this sweater during a July 4th sale day at Savers. It was 50% off all clothing items so I scored this awesome sweater for $1.50! Basically, if you have any USA, American flag, stars, or red, white, and blue sweater, you can just pair it with some shorts and you'll be set for July 4th! And also keepin' it real with my Iced Peach Green Tea Lemonade drank that snuck its way into these photos.
This is an outfit I would wear for events such as a potluck, daytime party, or a casual picnic. I incorporated the colors red, white, and blue; but in a very minimalistic way. Honestly, I would wear this outfit not just on July 4th, but on a normal day. You can recreate your own version by putting together red, white, and blue clothing items. Plus, I knew my red sandals would come in handy one day. I just knew it.
This is an outfit I would wear for an outdoor day event to celebrate July 4th such as a carnival or a fair. To be honest, I recently dug up these old (and by old I mean middle school days) Converse and decided to reincorporate them into my closet. They give such a casual but still stylish feel to this outfit. What's even better is my feet will stay nice and comfy in these Converse. Sneakers are a great way to stay comfortable in case you are doing something that requires a lot of walking on July 4th!
If you're not fortunate enough to get the day off (like me), then you might still need to look professional and put together. This is a fun "patriotic" outfit I would wear to a job, an internship, or somewhere where you need to dress up a little more. There's essentially only one day where you can wear red, white, and blue all in the same outfit with bold confidence without feeling self conscious of looking like  an American flag. So if I were you, I would take this opportunity and strut out in America's favorite colors!

Have a happy July 4th everyone! : )
